The stretcher blasted through the hospital doors, pushed by the nurses. David laid unconscious on the stretcher, painted in his own blood.
“We need a team in here stat!” the doctor shouted as the group hooked David up to various machines.
David’s electrical blood stream was keeping his brain alive but the rest of his body was fading. The machines continued to monitor him but would occasionally short out due to David’s power.
“This isn’t working doctor,” a nurse stated resetting one of the monitors.
“We need some help,” the doctor said to his nurse, “Get Gary in here.”
“Astrid, I love you,” David said staring into her eyes.
“I love you too,” Astrid said with a smile.
Across the hospital, Dr. Gary Warrens was flirting with a nurse as another nurse came running up to them.
“Doctor,” the nurse said trying to catch her breath, “We need your help.”
“My help?” Gary asked confused.
“We have the Hollow,” the nurse muttered frantically.
“Oh my God,” Gary called out before running back with the nurse.
“I don’t know if I can keep going without you,” David muttered his eyes closing to stop from tearing up.
“I know David,” Astrid said resting her hand on David’s face, “But you have to. Those people need you, they always have. People need you.”
“I’m surprised you called me in here,” Gary said walking into the surgical room after scrubbing up, “I’m just out of med school. I don’t know how I can help.”
“You’re always bragging that you saved him before right?” the doctor stated, “Well save him.”
“Charge the paddles,” Gary called out, “Have to remember, he’s electric.”
“I will always need you,” David said holding Astrid close.
“I will always be with you,” Astrid said resting her head on David’s chest, “You’ll always have me.”
David squeezed Astrid tight and let out a sigh of relief.
“What is your decision?” Death growled.
“I will go back,” David said turning to Death.
“As you wish,” Death growled as he spread his darkness to fill the white space.
“Clear!” Gary shouted as he hit David with the defibrillator.
A shock of electricity surged through David. He body jumped then remained motionless.
“Go again and max out the voltage,” Gary said looking to the nurse.
“Yes doctor,” a nurse replied as she fulfilled his request.
“I love you”
“Clear!” Gary shouted as he shocked David again.
David’s body jerked with the surge. His eyes glowed with the bolts of electricity. He began to call out and then vanished in a flash. The entire surgical staff was speechless and in shock.
“Yeah, he likes to do that,” Gary said with a chuckle to the silent room still holding the paddles then turned to the nearest nurse, “Hey want to grab a drink?”
David emerged in his apartment with a flurry of electricity. Ms. Pond came trotting up while purring, rubbing on David’s leg. He smirked and bent down to pet her. David walked over to the couch and lit a cigarette. He took a long drag as Ms. Pond curled up on his lap.
“I, am, a hero,” David said with his head leaned against the back of the couch as he resumed petting Ms. Pond, “These people do need me.”
